Vijay Hegde
Vijay Hegde is appointed as the Cataract and Vitreoretinal Surgeon at North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust. He leads the Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) service.
He studied medicine at JLN medical college, Belgaum, Inida in 1996. He completed Master of Surgery (MS) at Goa University in 2000. Following successful completion of higher specialist training in ophthalmology he perused his interest in Vitreoretinal surgery through three fellowships at Edinburgh, Newcastle and Manchester. He further undertook fellowship in Medical retina and Uveitis at Aberdeen.
Vijay Hegde has keen interest in research and teaching. He has published scientific articles in various reputed journals of ophthalmology. He has presented in various national and international meetings. He regularly undertakes teaching and training sessions for undergraduate medical students, junior trainees and general practitioners. He also regularly audits his own performance of his surgical practice and is consistently above national standards.
Research interests:
Current research projects are mainly in the field of Age Related Macular Degeneration and diabetic retinoptahy. He has presented his research in various ophthalmic journals and meetings internationally.
